ARC Encourages Life-saving Connection to Treatment amid Study Highlighting Widespread Impact of Overdose Deaths

LOUISA, KY — Addiction Recovery Care (ARC) is reminding individuals about the vital importance of connecting loved ones to evidence-based substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, following a recent report underscoring the devastating toll of the drug epidemic.

In a study released last month by RAND Corporation, more than 42 percent of Americans reported personally knowing someone who has died of a drug overdose; and nearly one-third of those individuals say their lives were disrupted by the death.

The research, published in the American Journal of Public Health, further noted that “rates of exposure were significantly higher in New England…and the East South Central region (including Kentucky).”

“Tragically, the results of this national study are not surprising to those of us working every day in the treatment arena,” said Matt Brown, ARC Chief Administration Officer and President of ARC Healthcare. “Each individual’s struggle with addiction impacts the lives of countless friends, family members and loved ones. And it is imperative that we all seek to identify and help those around us find life-saving care before it is too late.”

Substance use disorder remains a stubbornly persistent public health crisis, with more than 1.1 million overdose deaths documented nationwide since the year 2000 — including 2,100 annually across Kentucky.

ARC offers a full continuum of care including detox, residential, transitional, intensive outpatient, outpatient, medically assisted treatment (MAT), vocational rehabilitation, and job training through its network of over 30 licensed addiction treatment centers across Kentucky.
