FRANKFORT, KY (Jan. 24, 2025) – Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today that action from the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit will send a child predator from Carter County to prison. Chester Griffith, 76, of Grayson, received a recommended eight-year sentence for crimes against children under the age of 16.
On Thursday, Griffith pleaded guilty to two felony counts of Sexual Abuse First Degree, as well as two counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit Sexual Abuse First Degree, for two additional victims under the age of twelve. Griffith is not eligible for probation and will be a lifetime registrant on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry. A 10-year Interpersonal Protective Order (IPO) will also be entered for each of the four victims.
A Carter County Grand Jury initially indicted Griffith in February 2023 and then again, on an additional charge, in April of that year.
“This is a predator who exploited our most vulnerable for years. Now, thanks to the relentless efforts of investigators and prosecutors, he will be unable to harm kids from his new vantage point of a prison cell," said Attorney General Coleman.
The Kentucky State Police investigated the case. Deputy Executive Director of the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit Ramsey Dallam and Assistant Attorney General Todd Willard prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. Erica Paske with the Attorney General’s Office of Victim Advocacy worked with the victims.
